The Project Story

We started an experiment in authentic Christianity in the spring of 2002 that has led to what we now call The Project.

We wanted to give young adults in Edmonton the space and freedom to light the fuse that leads to Jesus and let them judge for themselves how an honest pursuit of God could change their lives. Since then, we have seen hundreds of young adults getting together on Sunday nights and pursuing God in new ways, with our own honest and unique voices.

As we grew, the power of community became such a passion for us that we launched a network of small groups that take us from the experience of Sunday nights into authentic community and more intentional spiritual growth.

We Are Committed to Three Purposes

  1. Increasing the number of people in Edmonton who believe in Jesus
  2. Increasing the quality of that belief
  3. Relieving suffering in the world around us.

If you come on a Sunday night, you can expect:

  • an experiment in barely organized religion (the Bible has some hard things to say about organized religion. It was never supposed to be about religion and we’re trying to keep it that way.)
  • a unique perspective – we don’t look at things in the way you might expect. We hope you find it refreshing.
  • a worship service that is genuine and honest, that you can participate in and that you’ll be able to understand at any stage in your spiritual journey
  • preaching that makes sense, is thought-provoking and authentic

In fact, here are our promises to you:

  • we’ll keep it simple
  • we’ll respect your privacy – we won’t centre you out or embarrass you in any way.
  • You can slip in, catch the service and be on your way with no strings attached. Of course, it can go deeper if you like. But we’ll leave it up to you.
  • we’ll give you the “uncooked” version – which means we won’t beat around the bush. We are trying to discover the thing that came first – the thing that led to everything else – raw, authentic, unreligious Christianity.
  • we’ll give you something you can respect, even if you don’t agree with it.
  • you will find a no pressure place to make up your mind for yourself – because, ultimately, you’re the only one that can do that.

The Project is the young adult ministry of Mill Woods Pentecostal Assembly in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
